Pupil absences: In the event that your child is absent from school I wish to remind you about sending in a note on your child’s return to school stating the reason for the absence. This information is reported electronically to the Education Welfare Services of the Child and Family Agency (TUSLA).
The reasons are categorised like this:
A: Illness
B: Urgent family business
E: Other
F: Unexplained
H: Holiday
If the school is not provided with a reason the absence is recorded under ‘unexplained’. If a child is absent for 15 days the parents/guardians are sent a letter stating the absences. If a child is absent for 20 days a referral automatically goes to TUSLA. Any child whose attendance is of concern can be referred to TUSLA before they are absent for 20 days. It is therefore imperative that you inform us of the reason for your child’s absence. We hope that your child will enjoy good health and good attendance.
